Detroit Revival Project

The Detroit REVIVAL Project brings together local artists - musicians, dancers, composers, visual artists - to collaborate in a shared performance space in order to build a strong arts community in Detroit.

The ConTempus musicians and ARTLAB J dancers seek submissions of short works by Michigan-based composers for our Detroit Revival Project. The final selections are read and rehearsed in an Open Rehearsal setting then performed publicly and recorded live in venues such as the Detroit Institute of Arts.

"As a composer with multiple and valuable ties to Detroit and Michigan in general, it has been a pleasure to be able to work with ConTempus and ArtLab J on such an inspiring idea as the Detroit Revival Project. I believe in the power of music to communicate and effect change, and an initiative like this, which brings together music, dance, and visual arts in collaborative performances of the highest quality, offers a unique opportunity to the people of Detroit to be surrounded by art at some of the city's premier venues."

                                                                                                                 - Victor E. Marquez-Barrios, Composer

"On a whim, I took my 7 year old daughter to the Detroit Revival Project performance. Didn’t know what to expect but it was a superb treat! Each piece very stimulating and evoked senses and emotions.

Absolute Michigan treasure!" - Shaun H.

"I really enjoyed the setting, and the music was wonderful. I could have listened to it all day. The contemporary dance was interesting and I enjoyed the experience. I am all about trying new things!" - Crystal P.
